Maintaining good health is not only important for our physical well-being but also for our spiritual growth. As Christians, we believe that God created us and wants us to live healthy and prosperous lives. Therefore, it is essential for us to seek guidance from the Bible on how to achieve good health. In this blog post, we will explore what God says about good health in the Bible and provide some action steps to help us live a healthy and fulfilling life.


Scriptures on Good Health in the Bible


Firstly, in the book of Deuteronomy, God tells us that our health is directly linked to our obedience to His commandments. In Deuteronomy 7:12-15, God tells the Israelites that if they obey His commandments, He will bless them with good health and prosperity:

“If you pay attention to these laws and are careful to follow them, then the Lord your God will keep his covenant of love with you, as he swore to your ancestors. He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers. He will bless the fruit of your womb, the crops of your land—your grain, new wine and olive oil—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you. You will be blessed more than any other people; none of your men or women will be childless, nor will any of your livestock be without young. The Lord will keep you free from every disease. He will not inflict on you the horrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but he will inflict them on all who hate you.”


This passage reinforces the idea that living a life of obedience to God’s commandments is key to experiencing good health and prosperity. God’s commandments are designed to help us live our lives in the most healthy and fulfilling way possible.


Secondly, in the book of Isaiah, God tells us that He is the ultimate healer of our bodies and souls. In Isaiah 53:5, it is written: “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”


This verse reminds us that we are all sinners and that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross has provided us with the ultimate healing for our physical and spiritual ailments. It is important to remember that we can rely on God for healing, both in this life and in the next. 



Action Steps for Good Health


  1. Follow a balanced diet: God created us to eat a variety of foods for our nourishment. Therefore, we should make sure to eat a balanced diet that includes fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, and healthy fats. Proverbs 25:16 says, “If you find honey, eat just enough—too much of it, and you will vomit.” This verse teaches us to practice moderation in our eating habits.
  2. Exercise regularly: God created our bodies to move and be active. Therefore, we should make sure to exercise regularly to maintain good health. 1 Timothy 4:8 says, “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” This verse teaches us that physical training has value, but it is not as important as spiritual training.
  3. Get enough rest: God designed our bodies to need rest to function properly. Therefore, we should make sure to get enough sleep and take breaks when needed. Psalm 127:2 says, “In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves.” This verse reminds us that God grants sleep to those he loves, and we should prioritize rest in our lives.
